In film, a character is built from what the frame shows and what it holds back. I approach portraiture the same way: through framing, gesture and expression, through light that reveals or withholds, and through doors, windows or a shoulder in the foreground that partly cover the subject. Each picture tries to tell a small story through these details, and leaves room for the viewer to finish it.
